Gunnislake Clitters Mine
Situated between Gunnislake and the village of Chilsworthy, Gunnislake Clitters was an important source of tin, copper, arsenic and wolfram from the 1860’s to around 1920. The mine buildings, shafts and processing sheds covered a large area running from the top of the hill down to the River Tamar and there is still much evidence of mining activity to see in the woodlands that have grown around it all.
Tamar Community Trust volunteers cleared vegetation from most of the buildings and ground in the winter of 2021 / 2022 enabling easier public access to the site. The TCT does not have the funding to take over management of the site and it remains in private ownership but public access is permitted. Visitors should exercise caution around the old buildings, spoil heaps and other structures.
