South Hooe

South Hooe is located on the Bere Peninsula in the tidal reaches of the River Tamar near Weir Quay on the Devon side of the river. While the Tamar Community Trust has no responsibility for management of the site, in 2021 volunteers from the TCT assisted in planting a new mixed deciduous woodland on the farm site (1100 trees over 1.43 ha) and laying 720m of hedgerow – 3325 trees and shrubs. The riverbank at South Hooe was breached in 2023 in order to open up another wetland area of 70 ha. The area is open to visitors on the first Saturday of every month but note that no dogs are allowed.
