Wacker Quay
Wacker Quay - an important agricultural dock
This site, situated on the bank of the River Lynher, offers unusual access to the riverside and stunning views up and down the river across to the far shore. It is also the start of a very pleasant and level walk to the village of Antony. This walk is used by both locals, especially dog walkers, and visitors alike. Just sitting at the Quay or walking the footpath provides ample opportunities for bird watching, picnicking, fishing or just chilling out.
Historically Wacker Quay was an important agricultural dock, later being used in the 19th century by the military for the transport of goods to the nearby forts. Traces of the railway and the turn tables can still be seen.
Quay area and footpath opening and maintenance
Tamar Community Trust and our volunteers were involved in the initial opening of the path and continue to be heavily involved in the maintenance of the Quay area and footpath, including the vegetation and signage. Our recent priority has been to make this popular location more user-friendly for those with differing disabilities. A dedicated parking and sitting area has been established for wheelchairs and new specially constructed benches and picnic tables are in the course of construction.
